A 17-year-old Mount Vernon Youth was arrested for possessing 5 loaded handguns. At approximately 05:00 am, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Members of the Mount Vernon Detectives Division, the Mount Vernon Emergency Service Unit, and the FBI Safe Streets Taskforce responded to a Mount Vernon residence to investigate a past Assault. A search of the residence led to the recovery of Five (5) loaded semiautomatic firearms. A 17-Year-old Youth was arrested and charged with attempted Assault 1, and multiple counts of Weapons Possession. Mount Vernon Police Youth Detectives are continuing the investigations. Prosecution is being handled by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. The Mount Vernon Police Intel unit, Violent Crimes Unit and Wellness along with the Mount Vernon School District are working collaboratively to curb youth violence.
