(Mount Vernon, NY, May 12, 2023) - Commissioner Glenn Scott of the Mount Vernon Police Department has announced his retirement to focus on personal endeavors. Commissioner Scott has served the community of Mount Vernon with dedication for three years, leaving behind a legacy of public service.During his tenure as Police Commissioner, Commissioner Scott supported the implementation of the Violent Crime Unit, Wellness Division and expanded partnerships with federal and regional law enforcement agencies which resulted in one of the most impressive homicide closure rates in the country.Commissioner Scott expressed his gratitude to the dedicated officers and staff of the Mount Vernon Police Department for their unwavering support and commitment to public safety. He also extended his appreciation to the community of Mount Vernon for their trust and collaboration over the years. His last official act of duty will be to officiate the Police Memorial Ceremony on Monday, May 15, 2023.Deputy Commissioner David Gibson will be sworn in as interim Commissioner following the Police Memorial Ceremony. Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard expressed her appreciation for Commissioner Scott's service and assured the community that a thorough and diligent search process in partnership with nationally respected police organizations, criminal justice consultants, and criminal justice educational institutions will be undertaken to identify a qualified candidate who will lead the police department through increasingly complex public safety landscape, both locally and nationally. The City of Mount Vernon sincerely thanks Commissioner Glenn Scott for his dedicated service and wishes him a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement.
