Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Violent Crime Unit were involved in a foot pursuit of a man armed
with a gun. At around 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023 the Detectives assigned to the Violent Crime Unit, were
patrolling in the area of Mount Vernon East Train Station, on Elm Avenue, when they observed a male party in
possession of what appeared to be a firearm. The Detectives attempted to stop this male and he fled on foot onto
the train platform and then onto the train tracks. Detectives immediately gave chase but were unable to apprehend
the fleeing suspect.
Detectives and Police Officers from Mount Vernon Police Department along with members of the MTA Police
Department and an MTA Police K-9 team conducted a thorough search of the area for the suspect and the firearm
but were unable to locate either. Mount Vernon Police ask that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the MVPD Detective
